Mtito-Andei and Kibwezi Youth Development Project (MAKYo-DeP)
Overview
The Mtito-Andei and Kibwezi Youth Development Project (MAKYo-DeP), implemented by Sikizana Trust for Community Development, ran from May 1, 2007 to April 30, 2008 with funding from the Kenya Community Development Foundation (KCDF). The project aimed to empower youth through sports, theatre, environmental conservation, HIV/AIDS awareness, and leadership development.

Achievements
Sports Development
Formed 16 teams (6 ladies, 10 men) and organized 4 successful leagues.
Trained 12 referees and 14 coaches, now active across the district.
Created Masongaleni Youth Sports Group (MYSG), a registered organization.
Youth elected to the District Youth Council and school committees.
Theatre and HIV/AIDS Awareness
Developed 2 new theatre groups delivering BCC messages.
Increased openness and dialogue on HIV and sexuality.
Trained 20 female peer educators with Hope World Wide.
Conducted VCT and de-stigmatization campaigns.
Environmental Conservation
Formed Masongaleni Water Resources Association and MASENVIRO group.
Constructed 5 sand dams and a rainwater tank.
Developed 14 nurseries; 3 remain active.
Introduced the "Clay Ball Method" for wild tree planting.
Increased water retention and horticultural farming along River Thange.
Leadership and Life Skills
Held 2 youth leadership camps and 1 executive session.
Trained youth in CV writing, career planning, and bylaws development.
Partnered with Out of Afrika (UK) to secure scholarships for 5 youth.
Challenges
Attrition of youth to urban centers.
Language barriers and high audio production costs.
Resistance from community elders initially.
